Ellie here. Happy Thursday!
We’re coming up on Memorial Day weekend, which (in my eyes) is the kick-off to summer! I’ll be spending it outside enjoying the warmer weather.
Got any fun weekend plans? Or any Memorial Day Weekend traditions. Let me know!
A quick note: If you didn’t know, our founding editor, Pat Kreitlow, has a political newsletter, Supper Club Statehouse, that goes out every Thursday. Be sure to subscribe if you want to stay in the know about all things politics in Wisconsin.
Also, tomorrow we’ve got another edition of Locals Love, where I want to hear about your favorite Mexican cuisine restaurants. Send in your favorite and tell me why to have it featured!

Mr. Baseball, the voice of the Brewers on the airwaves for more than a half-century, is being honored with an 80-foot-by-100-foot mural in downtown Milwaukee, Milwaukee Downtown Business Improvement District No. 21 announced in a May 14 news release.
While Uecker wore many hats, the mural will depict one most dear: Being the Crew’s play-by-play announcer.

Memorial Day weekend in Wisconsin kicks off the unofficial start to wonderful weather. Yes, technically, the spring equinox kicked off back in March, but as anyone from up here knows, there’s a chance we still get flurries in early May. Of course, the weekend is not just about an extra day off—it’s about honoring heroes in meaningful ways during Memorial Day.
If you’re looking for things to do this Memorial Day weekend while you’re out and about, we have several suggestions to add to your itinerary.

Property taxes remain stubbornly high in Wisconsin as educators plead with Republican legislators for state aid to keep up with inflation after more than 15 years of losing ground.

By Pat Kreitlow
It was big news when Democratic Gov. Tony Evers and Republican leaders in the Wisconsin Legislature announced they had agreed on a spending plan that would use the state budget surplus for property tax relief, special education relief, and direct checks to Wisconsin families.
It was equally big news that the bipartisan package failed after bipartisan criticism.
