Ellie here. We’re still talking about those gas prices. Last week, I asked to hear about what you’re seeing at the pump, and this is what you shared:
|
“Here in Wautoma we are at $3.99, I’m sure $4.something is coming soon!” — Connie C.
“Would give anything for your prices! Here in Northern California hovering around $6!!” — Sandi M.
“In Johnson Creek up 30 cents in one pump change. $3.99 to $4.29.” — Carol J.
|
As of May 5, the state average is at $4.40 per gallon, according to AAA. This is seven cents higher than last week’s average.
The national average is at $4.48 per gallon as of May 5, a 31 cent increase from last week.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on this, so keep me posted on what you see happening at the pump.
In other news, we’ve got another edition of Meet the Candidates, where we’ll take a look at Republican Kevin Hermening’s campaign, along with other Wisconsin news!

While the next Wisconsin election isn’t until Aug. 11, it’s important to know your voting plan, especially if you’re planning on using a mail-in ballot. A little prep now can save stress later.
Check your voter registration: The League of Women Voters has a comprehensive how-to guide to get you started.
Request your ballot early: You can request your ballot now! It only takes a few minutes.
Make a plan to return it: Getting your ballot is the first step; knowing how to return it is another. Find out whether you’ll mail it back or return it in person.
Follow the instructions: Make sure you follow all the instructions on the mail-in ballot to ensure it’s counted.
Track your ballot: After returning your ballot, visit https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Track-My-Ballot to confirm it was received and counted.
These few steps can make sure your vote counts in Wisconsin elections, because every vote matters.

Kevin Hermening is a Republican candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. He is a Marine veteran and a financial advisor. He was also an Iranian hostage for 444 days in 1979-1980.
On his campaign website, Hermening lists his top priorities as border security, defending the rule of law, law enforcement support, healthcare, and social security.
“Congress uses [Social Security] for everything other than only Social Security,” Hermening said in an interview with WSAW-TV.
“And as we continue to have an aging population, and yes, we have some younger generations growing in size as well, that’s good, but we have to wait until they really are paying in enough that we can continue to pay the seniors, who it’ll take a while before today’s 60-year-olds pass away. That’s not the goal, to worry about running out of money. It’s how can we keep it solvent?”

Immigrants. Protestors. People traveling for out-of-state abortion care.
These are just a few groups reportedly being monitored by federal agencies using Flock, an Atlanta-based surveillance company that holds contracts with thousands of law enforcement agencies and creates a national searchable network of vehicle identification information.
“Flock is part of an ever-growing array of invasive tools law enforcement uses to collect and centralize sensitive information that can then be analyzed and shared across agencies,” said Jon McCray Jones, a policy analyst for ACLU Wisconsin, in a press release.
