Ellie here. We’ve got a lot to cover today, let’s jump in.
First, we’re still keeping an eye on gas prices around Wisconsin. As of May 26, the state average is at $4.35 per gallon, according to AAA. This is actually a 15-cent decrease compared to a week ago. This is, however, a $1.32 increase compared to a year ago.
The national average is at $4.49 per gallon as of May 26, another four-cent decrease compared to a week ago.
Have you noticed any sort of decrease in prices at your local pump? Let me know.
In other news, with election season approaching, we’re looking at the candidates to expect on your ballot.
We’ve got another edition of Meet the Candidates. We’re diving into Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District race, where we’ll learn more about Rebecca Cooke’s campaign.
We’ve got this and more Wisconsin news for you today!

Protesting peacefully and safely in Wisconsin
|
Protesting is a powerful way to have your voice heard. Here are some ways to protest safely in Wisconsin:
Know your rights: Familiarize yourself with laws and guidelines. Protesting is protected under the First Amendment, giving you the right to speak out and advocate for change.
Dress accordingly: Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing that is appropriate for the weather.
Know your route: Plan where you’re starting, traveling, and ending. Let someone know where you’ll be and how long you expect to stay.
Bring essentials: Make sure you have your cell phone, ID, food, water, and any necessary medications.
Take breaks: In the heat, it’s okay to take time to step away, hydrate, sit down, or regroup when you can.
Stay aware: Watch your surroundings and be prepared if situations escalate or become unsafe.

Rebecca Cooke is a Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. She is a small business owner and was appointed to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation by Gov. Tony Evers.
On her campaign website, she explains her main priorities as healing the healthcare system, creating an economy for working families, fighting for Wisconsin’s farmers, and more.
“You can’t just be pointing out why the other side is bad. I think it has to also be like, if Democrats win back the House, if I’m able to flip this seat, what are we going to do differently?” Cooke said in an interview with the Wisconsin Examiner.
“So talking about what I intend to do in Congress versus just what the failures of Derrick Van Orden, I think is what people are really looking for in what feels like a very hopeless time for a lot of people.”

It’s difficult to say when the proliferation of data centers officially became a hot topic around the country, but there’s a pretty good benchmark of when it broke through as an issue in Wisconsin: Charlie Berens stepping beyond his comedic boundaries to rally opposition to their unchecked growth.
The Guardian newspaper has taken notice with extensive interviews of the man behind the “Manitowoc Minute” videos, following him to town halls in places like Juneau.
