How Republicans dropped the ball on conservation

Republican retaliation. That’s what some Democratic lawmakers say is the cause of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program being denied funding. 🌲 The program has helped permanently protect more than 750,000 acres in Wisconsin and has provided over 1,500 grants to land trusts and conservation nonprofit organizations, state park friends groups, and local governments. Sen. Jodi Habush Sinykin (D-Milwaukee), an environmental attorney specializing in water resources and wildlife conservation, blames Republican leadership’s lack of support for the program. She says it was retaliation after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee on Finance was unlawfully blocking funding for conservation projects. ✏️: Salina Heller
