Ellie here. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely feeling the holiday spirit! The holiday lights are hung, the snow keeps falling, and the cold is here to stay.
Some of my favorite things to do during the winter months are skiing, checking out holiday lights, and attending a holiday festival. And in Wisconsin, there’s no shortage of things to do during the cold.
A reminder, we’ve got a list of some activities happening around our state that goes out every Monday, called the Badger State Buzz. In case you missed it, you can check it out here!
This week, I asked for recommendations for your favorite supper club in our state. In today’s Locals Love section, we’ll be taking a look at what our readers had to say, along with other Wisconsin news!

Wisconsinites across the state are taking action on land preservation and conservation. (Chris Flexen/Unsplash)

One thing about Wisconsinites is we take pride in our land. Whether it’s the winding rivers that span the state or a family-owned farm, the Wisconsin landscapes are what make the state special.
Across the Badger State, neighbors, volunteers, and local organizations are doing hands-on work to protect this land. Since the 1800s, 50% of Wisconsin’s wetlands have been lost. Only about 10,000 acres of tallgrass prairie remain in Wisconsin, compared to the 2 million acres that once covered the state.

Wisconsin educators are shedding light on the unique dilemma rural school districts face as they work to meet a large portion of the state’s student needs despite significant funding and resource uncertainty.
The state recently announced significant funding cuts for more than 300 school districts across the state, many of which are rural.
Jeff Eide, executive director of the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance, said more cuts only exacerbate ongoing staffing issues, federal funding uncertainty and dwindling resources. He pointed out reduced funding and resources are forcing districts to make difficult choices.
