Wisconsin’s primary election is less than a month away, taking place on Aug. 11. Before heading to the polls, take a few minutes to check your voting info to make sure your voice is counted.
Voter ID: What’s accepted?
Wisconsin law requires a photo ID to vote.
Most voters show:
🗳 Wisconsin driver’s license
🗳 Wisconsin state ID card
🗳 US passport
🗳 Military ID
Student voters can show a student ID from a Wisconsin-accredited institution:
🗳 Must include: signature, issue date, and expiration date (within two years of being issued)
🗳 If expired, bring proof of enrollment (e.g., tuition receipt, class schedule)
Also accepted:
🗳 Veterans Affairs ID (unexpired or no expiration date)
🗳 Tribal ID issued by a Wisconsin tribe (can be expired)
🗳 Certificate of naturalization (issued within the last two years)
🗳 Wisconsin DMV ID receipt (for driver’s license, state ID, or petition process)
Having the correct ID ready matters because showing up without it can mean extra steps to having your vote counted.
Moved recently? Update your registration.
If you’ve moved, even within the same city or apartment building, you need to update your voter registration so you’re assigned the correct ballot and polling place.
Accurate registration and proper ID help ensure elections run smoothly and ballots are counted correctly.
