Ellie here. Earlier this week, I asked to hear about some of your new year’s resolutions. Here’s what you sent in:
|
“This year I will eat seafood at least once per week, spend 10 minutes in nature daily, and mentally list 3 positive moments of the day before sleep.” — Mary K.
“For many years now, the only resolution I keep year-round is to every month donate $20 to a nonprofit that matches my ideals, and looks ‘worthy.’ I have given it to a middle school for kids who were knitting scarves for the homeless, a missionary group toward upkeep of their airplane, Nature Conservancy, Central Kitchen, Wildlife Foundation, and many others.” — Su S.
“Instead of resolutions, I do intentions. They just seem a little more forgiving and easier to pick back up if I falter. This year I combined the need to really put my nose to the grindstone at work, spend quality time with my family, and still have some time to focus on what really rejuvenates me – spinning, carving, and gardening.” — Tammy S.

Spring bird migration may be awhile away, but there are a range of winter birds in Wisconsin that you can support over the next few months.
Goldfinches, sparrows, woodpeckers and chickadees are a few of the species that stick around in Wisconsin through the cold weather. Between the birds’ higher energy needs and the limited availability of natural foods, birds could use your help staying fed through the winter, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Here are some tips for feeding birds in the winter, plus how to report your bird sightings in Wisconsin.

Law enforcement officers attend to the scene of the shooting involving federal law enforcement agents who shot and killed a woman Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, in Minneapolis. (AP Photo/Tom Baker)

Minneapolis is a city on edge in the wake of a law enforcement-caused death, after a woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent. The shooting was immediately criticized by the leader of a Wisconsin immigration advocates group as proof that ICE activity has escalated into “chaos and brutality.”
“This is the human cost of an aggressive, militarized immigration strategy being unleashed in our neighborhoods, fueled by the politics of racism and corporate greed, not public safety,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera in Milwaukee, a group advocating for civil rights for immigrants, youth, and low-wage workers.
