What a great costume! Tomorrow is trick-or-treat in my neighborhood, and it is always such a fun night. My family is full of traditions, and Halloween is no different.
My uncle has a DeLorean (yes, from “Back to the Future”) and he and my brother make an annual appearance in our town’s Halloween parade. Then, for trick-or-treat, my extended family spends the evening at our house handing out candy to hundreds of kids, and when I say hundreds, I mean hundreds. We get buses of kids dropped off in our neighborhood, and we rarely have any candy left over at the end of the night.
Do you have any fun Halloween traditions? Let me know!

As Halloween approaches, homes around southeast Wisconsin are embracing all things spooky, supernatural and silly.
One place not to miss is A&J’s Halloween House at 2943 S. Clement Ave. in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood, which has drawn visitors to its annual displays for around two decades — and has been raising money for youth in need for half that time.
This year’s theme is Scooby Doo. Each year, Jamie Beauchamp and Andy Reid spend months designing and developing a Halloween display for their front yard.
Besides drawing spectators, it raises money for Pathfinders, a Milwaukee nonprofit organization focused on providing outreach services for youth and young adults ages 5 to 25 facing housing instability and other crises.

A Wisconsin teacher is voicing significant concerns about the recent federal special education cuts and says it’s an added blow to the state budget deficit. This month, the U.S. Department of Education began laying off more than 450 employees, many of whom oversee special-education management. Peggy Wirtz-Olsen, President of the Wisconsin Education Association council, also a high school teacher, said Wisconsin educators have already been sounding the alarm about the lack of special education funding and advocating for a higher reimbursement rate for special education needs. She added that the state cannot withstand what she describes as a federal attack on public education.
“What I’m thinking about when I look at these federal level cuts on top of the state struggling cuts. We didn’t get special-education funding up where we wanted to get it, so it’s kind of a one-two punch,” she explained.
