Primary elections are important because they show that while many candidates can appeal to voters in their own party, not all of them have enough bipartisan appeal to win over independents in a general election. At a recent forum in Lake Tomahawk co-sponsored by UpNorthNews, three of the Democrats running for Wisconsin governor were asked to describe their ability to work across the political aisle.
