In mid-June, U.S. and Iranian officials signed a preliminary deal to end the war with an agreement that called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and U.S. sanctions, USA TODAY reported.
Two days before that deal was signed, the average price for a regular gallon of gas in Wisconsin was $3.85, according to AAA. By July 9, shortly after President Donald Trump said he considered the the ceasefire “over,” Wisconsin gas prices had fallen to an average of $3.59 a gallon.
But in the last two weeks, the average cost of gas in Wisconsin has gone up by 28 cents, reaching $3.87 a gallon, according to AAA.
AAA attributed the Iran war and “volatility along the Strait of Hormuz” to a spike in crude oil prices being passed along to customers at the fuel pump.
The record for August gas prices was set at $3.98 a gallon in August 2022, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The all-time high for gas in Wisconsin was set in June 2022 at an average of $4.92 a gallon. One year ago, Wisconsin’s average gas price was $2.92 per gallon.
