Ellie here. I asked you all where you consider “Up North” to be, and I got a range of responses. Here’s what I heard:
“I’m from Fond du Lac and to me, ‘up north’ (or in the local parlance, “up nort”) begins at Stevens Point. It’s the place where I hop on I-39 to points north, like Wausau or Wisconsin Rapids, and there’s nowhere to go but up! It’s when I really feel like I’m on my way.” — Mel K.
“Being from Mosinee, I consider anything north of Merrill ‘Up North’!” — Jacqueline T.
“Up North for me is when Hwy 51 starts on its own (The end of I-39) and as you exit the north side of Wausau looking out over the wonderful valley of trees…green in the summer and with colors in the fall.” — Dean Z.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their thoughts! This past weekend, I was Up North in Townsend. And I agree with Mel K., with Up North starting at Stevens Point.
This upcoming weekend, my boyfriend and I are headed to Colorado where we’re going to a concert at Red Rocks! I can’t wait.
Is there anything you think we should check out while we’re there? Let me know!
