Ellie here. Happy Earth Day!
First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting action to environmental protection. We’ll be taking a closer look at some ways you can get involved today!
Do you have any plans for Earth Day or ways you like to help the environment? Let me know!
Before we take a look at those events, we’ve got another Civic Check-In, where we’re showing you ways you can take action by contacting your elected officials.
We’ve also got another Meet the Candidates, where we’ll take a look at Jessi Ebben’s campaign for US Congress.
A quick note: There will be no newsletter tomorrow, as we are launching our new website! We’ll be back in your inbox on Friday, taking a look at your favorite candy stores from around our state. Send in your favorites, and tell me why, to have them featured!

It might seem daunting, but five minutes is all it takes to contact your elected officials and make your voice heard on an issue that matters to you.
Whether it’s something happening locally in your community or a statewide policy, you can help shape the decisions being made at the local, state, and federal levels.
Not sure what to say? Here’s a script you can use when calling or emailing:
Hi, my name is [your name], and I’m a constituent from [your city or town]. I’m reaching out about [issue/bill], and I’d like to urge [representative’s name] to [support/oppose/take action on] this because [why it matters to you]. Thank you for your time and for representing our community.
You can quickly find your local, state, and federal officials by going to USA.gov’s “Find your elected officials” tool, or by going to the Wisconsin State Legislature’s website and typing your address into the “Who represents me?” tool.
A quick, respectful message can go a long way, especially when officials hear from multiple constituents on a single issue.

Jessi Ebben is a Republican candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. She is a “Trump conservative” and a seventh-generation Wisconsinite.
On her campaign website, Ebben lists her priorities as standing with President Donald Trump, border security, protecting the 2nd Amendment, and being pro-life.
“Yeah, I think more than anything, I’m running to be the conservative that reflects the 7th Congressional District,” Ebben said in an interview with WSAW.
“And a Trump conservative, it’s really about America first, right? And a lot of people do champion that, of making sure the values and the issues here that we’re facing on the daily within our own communities are heard.”
