According to a report by The Motley Fool, Milwaukee ranked eighth out of the top 50 places to retire in the US in 2026.
More than 2,000 retired Americans were surveyed to find what mattered most to them when deciding on a place to retire.
Scores for the cities were based and weighed on seven key factors determined by survey results, including “quality of life (31%), healthcare access and quality (15%), housing affordability (13%), crime and safety (12%), weather and climate (12%), state and local taxes (11%), and non-housing affordability (6%).”
These factors and other public data were used to score each of the 50 cities. Milwaukee came away with a total retirement score of 57.

A cryptocurrency scam victim in Wisconsin is speaking out about how her experience motivated her to prevent others from falling prey to similar scams.
Karin Schmeling, 71, a retired nurse from Greenfield, said she lost $4,400 to scammers who instructed her to secure her account from illegal activity under pressure, telling her to deposit funds into a cryptocurrency kiosk. Despite reporting the scam to authorities, she was unable to recover her money.
She said the experience took an emotional toll and inspired her to advocate for stronger safeguards against these types of scams.
