This week, I asked for your favorite campgrounds around Wisconsin. Here’s what you had to say:
📍Memorial Park Campground, Washburn — Arlan B.
📍Calumet County Park, Hilbert
“Dozens of campsites on eastern shore of Lake Winnebago, plus another dozen on top of the Niagara Escarpment.” — Cy B.
📍Merrick State Park, Fountain City
“When our kids were young (which is awhile ago) we would travel from Kenosha County to Merrick Park on the Mississippi River every year. We set up camp on the river. The kids could ride their bikes around the loop and we could access our boat simply by walking down the incline. We started out with a small pull-behind trailer, graduated to a 26′ RV and, finally, ‘roughed it’ with 4 tents to sleep in and one screen tent. 🙂 So many great rides up and down the river—to ‘3 Tubes’ and the locks and beyond or to Winona—or just in backwaters. It is where our kids learned to water ski. At night we would sit around the campfire and watch for satellites in the sky among all the stars. We started going when our oldest was a baby and made our last trip when she was in high school.” — Gail B.
📍Luna – White Deer Lake Campground, Long Lake
“A very beautiful campground on an isthmus between two small lakes. Deer, Bear, elk, moose, and a loon to wake you up every morning, when it calls out from the far end of the lake. … Usually there is no one else there, and the only sign of civilization is when the ranger drives through once a day, because the nearest phone is 8 miles away, and there is no cell phone service either …” — Thomas S.
