Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley reentered the race for governor on Saturday — including an endorsement from Gov. Tony Evers — and he made clear that many Democrats see the August 11 primary as Rep. Francesca Hong vs. the rest of the field. Crowley had exited the race 10 days ago and endorsed Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez. But when a campaign finance scandal caused Rodriguez to leave the race on Friday, Crowley jumped back in. He told supporters his experience makes him the best alternative to Hong, whose democratic socialist positions have fired up the left wing of the party and caused others to fear she would lose in November to Republican US Rep. Tom Tiffany. A Republican super PAC has begun airing ads about Hong, seemingly intended to boost her primary chances. Hong believes the popularity of her campaign will take her past Crowley, three other Democrats, and Tiffany.
