US Army veteran Ben Brist is one of three Democrats hoping to knock off Republican Rep. Bob Donovan in the suburban 61st Assembly District in and near Milwaukee. Brist will be on the Aug. 11 primary ballot along with with Lawanda Chambers and Brian Bock. There will be more than 100 contested elections for seats in the Wisconsin Senate and Assembly this fall. If only a handful of those seats flip to Democrats, they’ll control one or both houses of the Legislature for the first time in 16 years. We’re closely following some of the most heavily watched districts, like Assembly District 61.
