Dr. Jonathan Temte, a UW professor who helped declare measles eliminated in the US in 2000, says low vaccination rates put the state at risk of losing that status.
Wisconsin’s statewide measles vaccination rate is one of the worst in the nation at less than 85% — and it’s even lower in Milwaukee Public Schools, with just 56% for kindergarteners reported as taking the MMR vaccine last year. The national average is better than 92%.
Temte says the spread of misinformation is making it harder for people to get accurate health information and urges families to talk to trusted healthcare providers.
