Founding Editor Pat Kreitlow shared some thoughts on our morning radio show last week about the recent anniversary of the creation of Medicaid and Medicare.
Both programs represent promises made to every American worker and every vulnerable American facing disabilities or poverty. They were made when Depression-era memories were still fresh of how hard times could get for people due to age or health.
Now, concern about sickness and poverty have been replaced with a political desire to make life more comfortable for the very wealthy. Is that really America’s new promise—counting on the benevolence of billionaires?
