Mnuchin encouraged those expecting to receive a tax refund to file immediately in order to take advantage and receive their money.
Americans will now have until July 15 to file their income tax returns, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced via tweet on Friday.
The three-month extension is intended to provide Americans wiggle room as they endure the ongoing economic ramifications of the coronavirus crisis. Mnuchin said the delay would keep $300 billion in the economy as Americans who owe taxes can instead keep that money.
In a follow-up tweet, Mnuchin encouraged those expecting to receive a tax refund to file immediately in order to take advantage and receive their money.
