How you can turn out the vote with the Progressive Turnout Project

Wisconsin is set to be a critical swing state in November’s presidential election, and getting the vote out in our communities is more important now than ever. Canvassing, interacting with members of your community, and turning out potential voters can be daunting – that’s why the Progressive Turnout Project’s efforts to mobilize voters are so important.

The Progressive Turnout Project (PTP) is a national initiative to rally progressive-leaning voters through community-oriented events and programs. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Canvassing

Knocking on doors and reaching progressive voters on the ground is a great way to become more connected to your community, while learning more about the issues that your neighbors care about.

“PTP has trained 430 people to knock on doors in rural and exurban parts of the state,” wrote PTP’s president Alex Morgan in a comment to Up North News. “These door knockers have knocked 138,762 doors since the Democratic National Convention, and are on track to knock more than 250,000 doors by Election Day.”

PTP provides a regularly updated list of canvassing opportunities on their website. All volunteers will receive comprehensive training before their shifts.

  • Community events

Mobilization starts at the local level, and PTP recognizes how important it is to be an active part of your community. If canvassing isn’t your thing, PTP offers opportunities at many community events – including block parties, bingo nights, tabling at farmer’s markets, trivia nights, and more. These can be great opportunities to get closer to your community while making meaningful connections with others. Check their calendar for events near you.

In addition to these initiatives, PTP has also been writing and mailing postcards with voting information to voters all across the state. “1,527,914 handwritten postcards will be delivered to Wisconsin voters in the final weeks of the election,” wrote Morgan.
