The President of the United States has provided countless reasons why people are concerned that Donald Trump or his allies will try to interfere in the Nov. 3 election. While most of Trump’s rhetoric deals with past elections, this is the first time in his second term that he has an opportunity to actively sabotage the public’s sense of security in elections where his party is expected to lose power across the country.
Those worries stretch into Wisconsin where Robert Kraig, executive director of Citizen Action of Wisconsin, outlines a scenario where Trump could demand that absentee ballots be seized in Eau Claire or La Crosse — removing just enough ballots from the regular chain of custody to cast doubt on the results of a close race in the 3rd Congressional District.
Others say the concerns are overblown and the president is simply trying to provide an excuse — a lack of public confidence in the results — for Republican losses, even though he’s the one undermining that public confidence.
