WATCH: Why this OB-GYN will soon be back in her home state

OB-GYNs in Wisconsin have been breathing a little easier over the last few weeks.

That’s because there’s now a clear picture when it comes to what they can and cannot do as reproductive health care doctors.

In early July, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the state’s 1849 abortion law was invalid—ending confusion about whether the old ban or current medical guidelines should be the law of the land in the Badger State.

After the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Republicans in Wisconsin tried to use the outdated law to criminalize what, in modern medicine, is understood to be a standard practice of care for women’s reproductive health..

OB-GYN Dr. Kristin Lyerly says, “It’s an incredible relief.”

“Once we’re able to get the word out there and people understand that they don’t have to be afraid to seek care, it means that they’re going to get the health care they need.”
