IS IT 2003 … AGAIN? – The prospect of another war in the Middle East is not giving Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) any pause when it comes to a new tax plan that would make devastating cuts to health care.
Asked on a cable show whether President Trump’s attack on Iran should make Congress think twice about federal spending cuts to programs like Medicaid, Johnson said, if anything, it makes him want to push harder for a plan that could kick about 10 million Americans off their health plans.
He says it’s about fiscal responsibility. But Dan Shafer of The Recombobulation Area reminds us that Johnson’s fiscal responsibility was off-duty when he helped Trump pass a deficit-exploding tax plan eight years ago. Worse, he says, it reaffirms the notion that, as in 2003 with Iraq, fiscal conservatives only appear conservative when it comes to taking care of fellow Americans but not when it comes to fighting wars overseas.
