AOC Is Officially Speaking at the DNC. Here’s How and When to Watch.

Now that Joe Biden has selected Sen. Kamala Harris as his VP running mate, the DNC Convention is heating up with several high-profile speakers.  

“Damn @AOC is speaking at DNC,” a Twitter user said this Wednesday, as news of Bronx congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appearance at the Democratic National Convention spread.

The DNC, which will begin on Aug. 17 and run for four days, will be entirely virtual for the first time and feature several high-profile speakers, including former President Barack Obama, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Cory Booker, and of course, Sen. Kamala Harris.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez confirmed on her Twitter that she was only given 60 seconds to deliver her DNC speech next Tuesday. The New York representative tweeted a quote by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, which Elijah Cummings once recited: “I only have a minute. Sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, I did not choose it, But I know that I must use it. Give account if I abuse it. Suffer, if I lose it. Only a tiny little minute, but eternity is in it.” 

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s second-grade teacher responded to her tweet, saying, “You’ve got this. Remember all those poems we recited together in 2nd grade? It was prep for this moment. You’ve got this.” 

The congresswoman responded to her by tweeting, “Ms. Jacobs! Is that you?! Yes, I do remember the poems we recited in second grade! You prepared me perfectly for this moment. Thank you for teaching me, encouraging my growth, and believing in me as a child.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden will be accepting his nomination for President of the United States from his home in Delaware.

But back to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. The freshman representative is the only speaker announced so far representing the four congresswomen known as “The Squad.” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) are not on the schedule.

The DNC takes place Aug. 17-20, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. (EST). The official live stream for the DNC will be hosted on DemConvention.com.
