Camping off limits until at least June 7. Handful of parks remain closed.
Just in time for the three-day holiday weekend, the state will be extending the hours state parks are open to the public, although campsites will remain closed until June 7.
Beginning Saturday, all Wisconsin state parks will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. State parks will no longer be closed on Wednesdays. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, as restrooms will remain closed until Wednesday when only a select number will reopen for public use.
The only state parks that will remain closed are the Dells of The Wisconsin River State Natural Area, Gibraltar Rock State Natural Area, Parfrey’s Glen State Natural Area and Pewits Nest State Natural Area.
An annual park sticker or trail pass is required to visit state parks and trails which can be purchased online or by calling 1-888-305-0398 daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Although hours of operation have returned to normal, temporary capacity restrictions will still be in place to manage admissions and overcrowding at properties due to the COVID-19 crisis. Additional site-specific information can be accessed here.
The status of events, reservations and camping after June 7 is currently under review, according to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Rock Island State Park is closed to all use, including camping, until July 1. According to the ferry operator, ferry service to and from the island is on hold until further notice due to high lake levels and pending guidelines for both State Park and vessel operations during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
