It’s clear that a lot is at stake in the 2024 election, but how can you make a difference? There are many ways to get out the vote through volunteer efforts – here are just a few different opportunities for reaching your local voter base before Election Day.
Canvass
Canvassing is a great way to get connected with your community during this election cycle, and it’s very easy to get started. Wisconsin Democrats have opportunities all across Wisconsin for weekly canvassing, and you can use their calendar to find convenient options near you. Although it may sound intimidating at first, those interested in canvassing should know that they will be working alongside other passionate volunteers and aiding in important local outreach efforts.
Volunteer for a text bank
Want to make an impact without having to leave your house? A text bank is an outreach initiative that aims to reach and motivate potential voters via text message. The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is hosting two Zoom training sessions on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Tuesday, Oct. 22, both at 6 p.m. – you can register for one (or both) on their website. In these sessions, volunteers will be walked through the process and assigned to the phone numbers of voters that they’ll be texting with voting information.
Mail postcards
If you’re looking for another convenient option to get out the vote from home, look no further than mailing postcards to prospective voters. It’s a fun way to stay crafty while reaching individuals across the country, and many voters will appreciate a personalized message. Check out Postcards to Voters, Postcards for America, and Markers for Democracy for options on how to get involved.
Express your interest
Still not quite sure on how you want to get involved? You’re not alone, and you still have options. The easiest way to express your interest in getting out the vote is by signing up using the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s interest form. They will connect you with an organizer who will help find a way to volunteer that works for you, regardless of your prior experience.
Are you ready to vote? Make sure to check your voter registration status, see who’s on your ballot, and make a voting plan here.
