Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany refused to say that President Trump should not invoke the Insurrection Act as a pretext for putting more military into places like Minnesota or Wisconsin. Instead, Tiffany cherry-picked a list of crimes to paint most undocumented immigrants as deserving to be seized and deported, despite the crime rate among immigrants being substantially lower than for citizens.
Tiffany went on to make claims about American citizens refusing to work despite a record-high workforce participation rate — and said he would seek stronger work requirements that he says would fill the jobs on Wisconsin farms currently done by immigrants. Wisconsin farmers have consistently maintained migrant laborers work harder, show up consistently, and don’t cause problems. They have been seeking immigration reform rather than the mass deportations sought by Republicans.
