Nationwide, millions of people start the new year off by abstaining from alcohol during Dry January. In 2024, 25% of Americans successfully participated in the trend, according to Civic Science.

Launched by nonprofit Alcohol Change UK in 2013, Dry January has since expanded across the globe. The goal is simple: abstain from drinking alcohol for the entire month of January. One popular way people navigate this trend? Turning to tasty mocktails, aka cocktails crafted sans alcohol. 

In Wisconsin, about 61.8% of adults consume alcohol, compared to the national average of 52.3%. This higher rate of alcohol consumption is attributed to the “Wisconsin culture.” For years, Wisconsin has ranked high on the charts, and at times been characterized as the “drunkest” state.
