A Downtown Tradition Returns
The Madison Central Business Improvement District (BID) has announced five Thursday evening markets for 2025: May 8, June 12, August 21, September 18, and October 16. Each event brings together the best of Madison’s creative economy, showcasing handmade products, local art, artisan gifts, specialty foods, and fresh produce against the backdrop of State Street’s established businesses.
Celebrating UW-Madison and Graduation Weekend
The May 8 market is particularly special this year, arriving just two days before UW-Madison’s Spring Commencement. The event will celebrate the university’s impact on the community with a distinctly Badger flair. Look for vintage UW gear, graduation-themed crafts, and a special appearance by the Madison Traditions Bucky on Parade statue on the 500-block of State Street, complete with a festive balloon display perfect for graduate photos.
In honor of Nurses Week (May 6-12), select vendors will offer exclusive discounts for UW Health nurses and all nurses in the community.
Something for everyone
Families with children will find plenty of entertainment at the Family Activity Zone, right where State Street meets Capitol Square. The May market features fitness challenges with MADabolic Madison and the Madison Reading Project’s Big Red Reading Bus, offering programs and giveaways for young readers.
Music lovers can enjoy performances at the Peace Park Music Stage (452 State Street) with Soul Impressions from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and Sam Ness from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Additional buskers and performers will be scattered throughout the market.

Local businesses and vendors unite
Over 40 State Street businesses will participate with special offerings, outdoor cafes, and market-only promotions. Joining them will be more than 70 vendors featuring everything from handcrafted jewelry and pottery to specialty chocolates and artisanal spices. Food options abound with over a dozen food carts serving up diverse cuisines from around the world.
Whether you’re a graduating Badger, a longtime Madison resident, or a visitor from up north looking to experience the capital city’s creative energy, the Madison Night Market offers a perfect spring evening out. As State Street comes alive with music, food, and local entrepreneurship, it’s a reminder of what makes Wisconsin’s communities special.
