Concerns rise over Line 5 after natural gas spill in rural WI

In late August, rural Iron County faced a natural gas spill—one of the largest seen in our state—that sparked concerns over the controversial Line 5 pipeline that was damaged.

Around 1.3 million gallons of hazardous liquids were released near Sitan Road outside Saxon in rural Iron County after an unoccupied semi-truck rolled into an open excavation at an Enbridge Line 5 valve project. The truck hit the pipeline, resulting in the release of the natural gas liquids.

“We’ve said from the beginning that building an oil and gas pipeline puts Wisconsin’s Northwoods and the families who live there at tremendous risk,” said Clean Wisconsin attorney Evan Feinauer in a media release. “This dangerous, toxic spill shows the harmful consequences that can result from Line 5 pipeline work and construction.”

Packers face a financial sack as private equity sweeps the NFL

Green Bay Packers history is the subject of a new book by Tom Nelson (inset), but he has concerns about the team’s future because it is excluded from an incoming wave of cash from private equity investors due to the Packers’ nonprofit status.
