Good morning, Wisconsin!

Ellie here. Yesterday was National Voter Registration Day. Are you registered to vote?

I remember registering to vote for the first time. I was 18, living in my dorm room in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and was totally overwhelmed by all the information.

On Election Day, I walked 35 minutes across Madison to what I thought was my polling place, only to find out I was at the wrong location. So, I walked another 40 minutes to the right one and cast my ballot.

All that to say: Voting can be confusing. There are deadlines to keep track of, lots of information to sort through, and times when you wonder, “Am I doing this right?”

That’s why I want to make sure we’re answering the questions you actually have. What challenges have you faced with voter registration or voting in general? Let me know!

Meta pays record settlement as Wisconsin bans phones in schools, advocates want more

Concerns about screen time and social media are mounting, all the while Wisconsin students are back to school with new classroom phone restrictions.

In late August, a $17.1 billion Meta settlement promised new protections for young users on social media, but advocates say Big Tech still needs to do more.

📱 Across the US, four states have already passed laws, screen time restrictions, or regulations for students. A Republican lawmaker is proposing screen-free classrooms in Wisconsin until 3rd grade. (WPR)

🗞 A Marquette University Law School poll released in August found that 78% of voters oppose data centers. This is up 2% from July, and 23% from October 2025.

🗳 After an error in Milwaukee during the August primary, conspiracy theories began to circulate. There is no evidence of election fraud according to Milwaukee audit logs. (Wisconsin Watch)
