The lawsuit seeking to discount military votes comes from the Republican conspiracy theorist who chairs the Assembly Elections committee—and disgraced elections “investigator” Michael Gableman.
“It’s critical that we continue having an Attorney General we can count on to stand up for the will of the voters and our democracy in 2024, no matter the result," Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul told UpNorthNews.
Their public break-up highlights the widening fissure between Republicans who will and won’t continue placating former President Trump’s efforts to subvert the will of the voters who removed him from office.
“Neither facts nor law supported Gableman’s conduct,” said a Dane County judge about the boisterous former state Supreme Court justice whose sloppy, conspiracy-fueled investigation into Wisconsin’s 2020 election results has cost taxpayers nearly $1 million.
Trump allies call it a summit for “election integrity,” but it’s a Who’s Who of right-wing activists undermining state and local rules and officials as a way to reinforce the Big Lie about the voter fraud no one has found.
With no evidence of any 2020 election fraud, the antics serve to keep the GOP’s right-wing invested in efforts to cast doubt on past elections and impede future voting.
